I am very pleased and excited that the 2018 Annual Conference of the Emerging Markets Conference Board (EMCB) is being hosted by Wits Business School in Johannesburg.

The annual conferences of the EMCB bring together scholars from around the globe. We seek to advance the understanding of marketing in emerging markets and facilitate collaboration on emerging markets research. The Annual EMCB Conference provides a platform for sharing insights and findings on marketing in emerging economies, where scholars from different countries can exchange ideas and explore collaboration, shaping the agenda for research on marketing in emerging economies. The environment is developmental in nature where new researchers can gain new skills. Faculty, doctoral students, policy makers, managers, and others are welcome to attend. It is my pleasure to extend a personal invitation to you. I look forward to seeing you at Wits Business School in Johannesburg.

Professor Steve Burgess, Conference Co-Chair, EMCB member, Director: Research and PhD Programme and Professor of Marketing, Wits Business School.

We are delighted to welcome the EMCB Annual Conference and Doctoral Consortium back to Africa. We have an exciting conference planned. A professor at one of our leading South African universities refers to the 2013 EMCB in South Africa as the highlight of his academic career. This year, the EMCB will again once bring several of the most influential scholars in our discipline to South Africa for the main conference and doctoral consortium. The conference will follow the traditional EMCB format, with competitive paper sessions, poster sessions, meet the editors sessions featuring editors from leading international journals and special panel sessions. We expect much more participation from African marketing practice thought leaders this year. A special track will be organized to showcase cutting-edge applications of marketing science in business practice. In addition to best paper awards, there will be a practice prize will be awarded by a panel comprising leading international scholars.

Keep your eyes on the EMCB conference webpage! We are negotiating with several tourism providers for travel and accommodation discounts. We intend to offer some exciting tourist activities that will include travels to game parks and exciting South African tourism destinations. We look forward to welcoming you to the Wits Business School in April!
